School Cross Country

We'd been training for weeks and finally the big day arrived! Dressed up in our team colours and ready to yell our team chants we headed over to Petone Rec. What a great morning we had and every single Tui ran their hearts out. Big congratulations to George who had only been at school for a day.

Welcome Benjamin and Family

On Monday we also welcomed Benjamin to Sacred Heart Petone. Nicola came from his preschool, Imagine and handed him over to us with his very special taonga, a profile book of his time with them.

Mum. Dad and younger sister Cecillia came to support and be welcomed too.

While his special big buddy Zion put one of our school lavalava on, his very proud big brother Angus introduced him.

We are so thrilled to have you here Benjamin.

Our Very Special Mothers Day Liturgy

On Wednesday Father John helped us with our Mothers Day buddy class liturgy. It was lovely to see lots of our Mums, Grandmas and Aunties come along. We were very brave and lots of us had things to do or say throughout the liturgy.

Welcome George

 At School prayer on Monday we welcomed George into our sacred Heart Petone School Community. Shelly came from his kindergarten, Mason as his new buddy helped welcome him and his whanau, big sister Harriet, cousin Tess and little brother William all helped too.

Farewell Father Albano, welcome Eden ad whanau and our special ANZAC Liturgy

Our first School Prayer for the term was a very special one. We welcomed Eden to Tui Class and Sacred Heart Petone School. Eden wore the Petone Beach korowai, which symbolized the care and nurture she had received in her Early Childhood education. Shelly her previous teacher told us all about it.Her new big buddy Troy and Mrs Pennington took off her korowai and welcomed her into her Primary School.

Her very proud big brother Solomon introduced her and all her cousins stood up to awhi her as well. Eden was so excited to start school and we are thrilled and lucky to have her join our community.

It was also a sad day as we farewelled Father Albano. He has been a very special part of Tui Class for the last 3 years and we are very sad to say goodbye.

On Friday Mrs Bell organised a very moving ANZAC liturgy to remember all those who fought for our country in the first World War.

It was a beautiful sunny still day as we had our liturgy outside near our remembrance field

 Zach and Angelina did a fantastic job of representing Tui in carefully laying a cross and poppy wreath.

We were all very respectful during the service.

Term 1 Finishes

Term 1 was a short term and it flew past in a flash. We had such a busy term with lots of fun and learning going on. Here are some of our last activities for the term. Now we've said goodbye to the sunhats and hello to winter uniform.

We can now sing our Days of the Week song in both English and Samoan.

Here's our counting trains, we love to see how far we can count forwards and backwards

 Here we are at our last Discovery time for the term. This is one of everyone's favourite part of the week. Loads of creative learning, thinking and talking go on for all.

 Making the worms in mud activity was a huge hit for everyone!

It's also a time for us to create things with people from other classes.

Easter Play was a lovely performance, we practices our dance with our big buddies from Pukeko and the church was packed with members of our whanau who came to watch.

Another busy week in Tui Class

This week we were back to normal routines. The weather gave us a bit of a shock too. It was still a week of lots of great learning and we had some visitors from Petone Beach Kindergarten and Imagine Pre-School.

On Thursday the Greenie group served the whole school a yummy rhubarb crumble. Kahlea lept in to give Mrs Pennington and the group,  a hand serving the 100 plus people.

 At Maths time we often work in groups to explore number concepts. Here we are learning about groups to 10.

Sr Annette comes every Tuesday to teach us Tai Chi, she often thinks we are the best class in the school.

 Father Albano is another regular visitor to Tui class. We are going to miss this wonderful man when he moves to Rome in April. 

 Here we are enjoying our lovely free Duffy books. What lucky tamariki we are.
